Front Landscape Design & Installation

The front of the Graber residence: one curving mulched bed along the house to the porch, a Japanese maple among boulders at the corner and a young maple staked in the lawn.

This project began with a custom landscape design for the front of the home, built by the same team that drew it. The design wraps the house in one continuous, curving bed that runs from the side yard, around the front corner and along the house to the porch steps, with a smaller bed on the other side of the walk.

The plan was presented in color first and then revised, and the finished yard follows the revised plan. It layers hydrangeas, junipers, yews and ornamental grass through the bed, with a Bloodgood Japanese maple set among boulders at the front corner and a Shantung maple planted as a new shade tree in the lawn.

Along the side of the house, the bed becomes a river rock border set with natural boulders, while the front is finished in mulch behind clean, curving bed lines. New sod was laid across the lawn to meet the new edges.

Result:

A finished front yard framed by one flowing bed of layered planting and natural stone, with a new shade tree to grow into, all designed and built by one team.
