Design & Concept

A measured plan of your property — every bed, surface and plant on it — drawn by the people who will be on site when it is built.

The design process

Our Design Process

Clarity starts with a vision — yours.

It all begins with a simple step: fill out our contact form or give us a call. We’ll set up a consultation to walk your property, understand your goals, and explore your vision for the space. At this stage, we often recommend a custom design. Why? Because nothing brings your ideas to life like seeing them on paper. Until it’s drawn, it’s just potential — once it’s designed, it’s direction.

Step by step

If you move forward with a design, our process looks like this:

  1. 1

    Precision Measurement

We return for a detailed site visit to take measurements to scale and note every detail—drainage, grading, existing features, and flow.

The side of the Earthworks truck: the wordmark, Plan · Design · Build and the phone number on the door, the services lettered along the bed.
  2. 2

    Design + Estimate

Within about two weeks, we’ll sit down for a full design presentation. We’ll walk you through your custom plan, review layout and materials, answer questions, and make any necessary adjustments. You’ll also receive a detailed proposal with transparent pricing.

A wide streetscape planting plan: benches and banded paving between rows of counted switch grass, red yucca and grama grass, drawn as one long strip.
  3. 3

    Approval & Launch

Once approved, we finalize the design and move into scheduling. All materials are ordered and construction begins—turning your vision into a finished space built to last.

Overhead view of the finished site, with four painted pickleball courts inside the fence line and the new walkway and planting beds along the street edge.

What you receive

Landscape Design Services in Wichita, KS

At Earthworks, our landscape designs are more than visual concepts — they are build-ready plans created to transform your property into a functional, long-lasting outdoor space. Our design process is led by an experienced design-build team, ensuring every plan is realistic, installable, and aligned with how your space will actually be used.

What Our Landscape Designs Include

Property-Specific Planning
Every design is customized to your home’s layout, grading, drainage, sun exposure, and existing features. We design with your property’s natural flow, not against it.
Plant Selection & Layout
Plants are selected and placed based on mature size, seasonal interest, spacing, and maintenance needs. The result is a landscape that looks intentional on day one and continues to improve as it grows.
Hardscape Design Concepts
Designs may include patios, walkways, retaining walls, borders, and defined outdoor living areas. These elements are positioned for function, movement, and long-term durability.
Material Coordination
Rock, mulch, edging, pavers, wall block, and other materials are selected to complement each other in color, texture, and scale, creating a cohesive finished look.
Landscape Lighting Concepts
When applicable, designs include low-voltage lighting concepts to highlight focal points, improve safety, and extend the usability of your outdoor space.
Drainage & Grading Considerations
Water movement and problem areas are addressed during the design phase to protect your investment and prevent future issues.
Clear Visual Design Plans
Designs are presented in a clean, easy-to-understand format so you can clearly see the finished vision before construction begins.
Designs Built for Construction
Because we are a design-build company, our plans are created to reduce guesswork, avoid costly changes, and ensure the final installation matches the original vision.
