Pickleball Commons – Entry & Community Space Enhancement

Paver stepping stones set into decorative aggregate beside the courts, with red flowering yucca and ornamental grasses along a segmental retaining wall.

This project was designed to transform the main entrance and surrounding common area leading into the pickleball courts, creating a welcoming, durable, and visually engaging space for players, spectators, and the broader community.

The work focused on reconfiguring the existing site with new hardscaping, walkways, and landscaped gathering areas that improve flow, usability, and long-term durability. Site preparation included excavation, grading, and removal of select existing materials to properly support new construction.

New concrete walkways and premium paver surfaces were installed to guide visitors into the courts while defining seating and social areas. These hardscape elements were paired with thoughtfully designed planting beds, featuring layered plant material and decorative stone to add texture, color, and low-maintenance beauty throughout the space.

The layout was intentionally designed to serve more than just a pass-through. Seating areas framed by greenery create a destination where visitors can relax, socialize, and enjoy the atmosphere before or after matches. All materials and installations were selected with longevity, performance, and public use in mind.

The project concluded with full site cleanup and detailing to ensure a polished, city-ready finish.

Result:

A functional and inviting public space that elevates the pickleball courts’ entrance, encourages community interaction, and provides a durable, attractive environment built to serve McPherson for years to come.

Ornamental grasses in a black-rock bed along the courts' fence, the block seat wall behind them and the new concrete walk in front.
A skid steer grading the parkway strip from above, the block wall and courts fence behind it and fresh soil ridged where the beds will go.
